# NO DEVIL

## ABOUT THE GAME

No Devil is a game created by 3K Games and Moo Town Games. It is the longest existing game among the skill games in Second Life. The game changed a bit over the years but in essence it is still the good old No Devil. As the name says, you won’t find any devil in the game play. In the old days there were a lot of games that had a devil. Getting a devil was a bad luck, it costed the player points.

## THE GAME MACHINE

Let’s have a closer look at a No Devil game machine. All relevant info is visible at the front size of the game machine.

We’ll discuss all elements in detail, let’s now look at the three that are most interesting when starting a game. The price, prize and target score show that the game costs L$1, the player can win L$2 when scoring more than 38,661 points.

There is of course a relation between price, prize and target score, you won’t find a game anywhere that costs L$1, you can win L$200 and the target score is 20,000. The higher the target score the higher the winnings can be, but the harder it gets to win.

Needing 38,661 in order to win twice our money is a fair deal. So we can right click the game, pay it L$1 and the game will start immediatly. Let’s start playing. Later on, at the bottom of this page, we describe all game elements in detail.

## SCORE CHART

As you see you can receive points for matching a number. When you match all numbers on a row, column or diagonal you’ll get extra points. Completing the colored letter (we’ll talk about that a bit later) gives a whole bunch of points and filling the entire board gives a whole lot.

Jokers and question marks appear on the spinner. You get the points added automatically.

Multipliers and Spider are hidden on the play board. You don’t know (at least not at the start of the game) where they are. If you match a number where a multiplier is hidden, all score from that moment on will be multiplied by 2. There are two multipliers, match the other one and all score form that moment on will be multiplied by 3.

The spider can spoil that party. There is only one spider hidden on the play board. When you reveal the spideryou’ll see the multiplier value drop with one step. So, if you had 2 it will become 1 again, if you had 3, it will become 2. If you had nothing yet, the spider is harmless.

* Mach a number = 200 points.

* Fill a row, column or diagonal = 500 points.

* Complete the colored letter = 3000 points.

* Fill all 25 tiles on the board = 7500 points.

* A Joker = 1000 points.

* Mystery (the question mark) = 100 to 1000 points.

* Revealing a multiplier = 2000 points

+ increases your multiplier.

* Revealing the spider = 0 points

+ reduces your multiplier.

## LET’S PLAY A GAME AND WALK THROUGH WHAT HAPPENS

We start the game by paying it. Right click the game machine, choose Pay, choose the amount you want to play for, in this example we only have one choise and off we go. The game starts.

## the first round gives us 2 possible number matches and a joker. There is a good reason to play the number matches first, because they might give information we can use deciding where to put our Joker.

## We make a number match by clicking the number on the play board (Not on the spinner as that would end the round before playing someting).

## After playing the two number matches, the board looks as

## The red arrow points to a multiplier. So we know there has to be a multiplier at either 26 or 24 (or both, as there are two multipliers).

The grey arrow points to the spider. So the spider has to be hidden at number 63.

## We played 2 matches, gaining 2 times 200 = 400 points.

## Let’s not forget to play the wild on the 4th column. We can choose any field on that column to play it on.

## 59 is a pretty neat choice: It helps in completing a horizontal, vertical and diagonal line a bit more, it is on the yellow letter and might give information with a red arrow on where that multiplier is.

Instead of an arrow we see a yellow star. The game only gives yellow stars as it can’t show a red or grey arrow. So we know that at the same column, same row or same diagonals as the star is there is neither a multiplier nor a spider. That makes it also sure the multiplier on the 2nd column is behind 24 and not 26.

## see that a big part of the board now for sure does not contain a spider or a multiplier. We already know for sure where one multiplier is, we know where the spider is and the other multiplier can only be at a limited number of spots. Yayy!!

We have played all we can play. We click on the spinner in order to move on to the next round.

## the second round brings us two possible matches to play. 8 and 54.

On first sight, one would say, just play these numbers and go on to the next round.

Yes. Let’s do that, that will bring 400 points. But..we know 8 can contain a multiplier and 54 cannot. So, if we play the numbers in the order 8,54 then we have a chance the 200 points for 54 will be doubled. When we play in the order 54,8 we miss that chance.

200 points is not a lot, but enough to care about.

## As we see , it worked out. 8 did contain the multiplier. Note that the 2000 points we got for revealing the multiplier got doubled too…since the multiplier is revealed.

Nice! On to the next round. We click on the spinner to move on

## The next round doesn’t give us much to do. We have only one number we can match, 74.

## We click the 74 on the play board, collecting 400 points as everything is multiplied with 2 now. Then we click the spiner to move on to the next round.

## The next round is giving us 2 numbers to match. That’s always a good thing, points are coming in slowly but we also fill up spots so that in rounds to come might be able to complete lines.

## We can match 27 and 61, the order doesn’t matter as there is nothing with spiders or multipliers that could be on either of both tiles.

## After we clicked both tiles on the board, the board looks as

## We got a joker. We can play it anywhere on the column.

Note that we received 2000 points for it (1000×2).

## Due to the red arrows we know for sure that the second multiplier is hidden at 24.

So, our sincere apologies for the numbers 29 and 26 but we’ll be off gaining a whole bunch of points and a x3 multiplier, by clicking 24.

Score is moving up hard. But let’s not start celebrating yet, we gained in total 10.000 points for revealing both multipliers. All multipliers are revealed now, so the remaining points needed will have to be collected with other means.

Let’s move to the next round. See what it brings.

## This round is a bit a bummer. Nothing to match at all, with scoring zero extra points we move on to the next round.

## The next round again has no matches to make at all. )):

Getting no match during a round or even a few rounds in a row is not something remarkable. When playing No Devil you can have quite a few rounds without any matches, surely near the end of the game when already a lot of tiles are matched.

## This round we got something again. We can match 15.

## But that is also all. So we click 15 on the play board and then on the spinner to move to the next round.

## This round we can match 63 and 31.

## 31 is a sweety. It is nicely on the middle of the board, we are coming near the stage where we have enough matches to complete lines. And there is only 1 number that is located exactly on the center of the board, being on a row, a column and as only number on the board on both diagonals. That’s 31.

## With a great pleasure we match 31.

But we’ll give 63 the finger. We don’t match it, we ignore it. As we figured out earlier in the game, at 63 is the spider. We don’t need a spider right now, our multiplier will drop.

## So, let’s do 31 and go on to the next round. Bye bye 63…

## Great, 2 Jokers.

So get a whole bunch of points just for having the Jokers andwe can choose ourselves where to play them.

## Since both jokers have nothing to do with possible spiders and/or multipliers we try to place them strategically in order to increase our chances on future line matches and/or matching the letter.

## It is clear that the Joker on the second column can be best played on 29. 29 and 26 are both on a diagonal but 29 is also on the letter and it is on that diagonal we can match without that the spider gets revealed.

## The other Joker I played on 41 when making this example. When writing this text I realize that 39 would have been a slightly better choice. Slightly better because it would contribute a tiny bit more to our chance on winning this game than 41 does. As soon as you can figure out why, you are getting quite good at this game.

41 wasn’t a terrible bad choice either. Let’s go on to the next round.

## This round we got a question mark. Furthermore nothing to match.

## We have a x3 multiplier. Thus, the points of a question mark are also multiplied with 3. This question mark added us a sweet 1290 points. Great, on to the next round.

## As you see , nothing to match in this round. So, all we can do is go one round further and see what that brings.

## There is a joker again, giving us 3000 points because we are pretty and sweet.

## We can play the joker anywhere we want in the column but in this case, the only free spot is 26. So, we play it there. That will give something we was waiting for: Our first line match. We filled the entire second column and will receive 1500 points for that.

## Let’s not forget to play the match we have on the 3rd column too. We play 45.

Now we are at the subject anyways: Missing numbers, not seeing or forgetting to play a match can be a painful mistake in this game. Try to be as accurate as you can be, it really helps in winning more.

## We didn’t forget a thing, so we move on to the next round.

## Wow, 2 more jokers. We won’t be silly enough to play one at 63 and get that horrible spider out, we nicely take 71, match another line which brings enough points to win this game. For the other one 47 is a good spot, it gives hope that we can make another line later with 5.

## Don’t expect fireworks and receiving cash yet…that will come at the end of the game. But nothing can happen anymore, we won!!

You see 40,040 points at figure 28..that’s more than enough.

## After a win there are good reasons to finish the rest of the game, trying to catch as many points as you can. At most regions your score is counted on the contests and there might be a jackpot to win. Our example was long enough…we stop here.

## TWO MORE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Bonus rounds

During a game you can receive bonus rounds. Your game will last 1 or 2 rounds longer. You can also receive another bonus: All 5 tiles on the spiner are Jokers. The last is of course a splendid bonus. It can turn a game that might seem lost into a win.

Limited time

You only have a limited time to finish a round. Halfway the time you get a warning. If you don’t finish your round on time the game will stop, denying you to play the next round.

At our regions we set that time limit to 3 minutes, so you won’t be easily bothered by this limit. At some other places it could be as low as 30 seconds. 3 minutes might be a bit overdone, but we just don’t want to take away the game you paid for.

## ALL ELEMENTS OF THE GAME MACHINE

## Prize.

This the amount you can win. On this example it is L$2 while the game costs L$1. So the prize is twice the pay in price.

When the game is configured to have multiple pay in prices, the prize is not shown as an amount but as a multiplier. In such case you would see e.g. 2X instead of L$2. 2X means, the game pays twice the amount payed in.

Games that pay a variable prize (the prize depends on the score) show the word paytable instead of a prize. Games that are connected to an add-on as a Wink SK or a MegaWheel show the word contest. In these case it is not the game itself that pays out a prize but the add-on.

## Target score.

Remember that you have to beat this score in order to win the game. Scoring exactly the target score is not enough. After beating the target score, you will be paid your price at the end of the game.

Games that have a paytable or are in contest mode don’t show a target score. A paytable has a lot of targets and in contest mode the game machine itself does not pay out at all.

## Rounds left.

This is the number of rounds left to play after the current round. Of course, this is only relevant during gameplay. When the game is not being played it will show 0.

As the game has 22 rounds, as soon as the game starts you will see 21 rounds left after the current first round.

During gameplay, you could get once or twice a bonus adding one or two extra rounds to the game.

## Current score.

This is the score you gained until now. Every time you collect extra points the score will go up. As on all skill games in Second Life, the score can only go up, and never down.

## Play board.

The play board is a field of 5×5 filled with numbers, a letter pattern, and hidden behind the numbers 2 multipliers and a spider. You will get red and grey arrows to help you locate the multipliers and the spider.

In the first column the numbers range 1..15, in the second column they range 16..30, and so on. A match of a number on the spinner is always on the same column (vertical line) on the play board. You will never see e.g. 7 in the second column.

## Spinner.

On the spinner you see every round a set of 5 items, being each either a number, a joker or a question mark.

The number might be a match on the playboard. The Joker is a wild card that can be used on the same column as it is showed in and the question mark gives extra points. These extra points are added automatically at the beginning of the round. You don’t have to do anything for it.

## Percentage to the pot.

This percentage of the buy-in price will be added to the prize, each game.

E.g. the game costs L$100, you can win L$200 and the percentage is 10, then the first game the prize becomes 110, the second one it becomes 120 and so on. When the prize is won, it goes back to 100. The percentage is added at the beginning of the game.

Be aware that the amount added to the pot always is rounded down. So, e.g. a game that costs L$25 and has 10% to the pot, does not add L$2.5 per game but only L$2. In such case, you might prefer playing e.g. a L$20 game.

We have made sure that we at our regions have no games where a percentage to the pot is rounded.
